Music Notes - December 2008

Christmas is almost here and the Children’s Choirs have been working very hard on a Christmas musical entitled “The Tiniest Christmas Star.” They will be presenting this musical, which is about 15 minutes long, at the 5:00 pm Christmas Eve Family Service. The music is lively and the story is about the stars in the heavens on the night Jesus was born.  Of course each star thinks they will be chosen to be the star to lead the shepherds to the manager but one little star, the tiniest star, is glum because he’s so small he knows he will never be chosen. Some of the “characters” include a “Western Cowboy” Star, a “Sergeant” star, and numerous other heavenly stars.  This musical is suitable for all ages, kindergarten to 90 year olds.  Bring your whole family to this Worship Service as we imagine what it would be like to be chosen as the star with a most important assignment. Diane Daly is the Director and Jennifer Klenk the accompanist.

Children Prepare for the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper - September 28th

One of the responsibilities of a parent is to prepare our baptized children for participation in the Lord's Supper and to decide when Communionthey will participate in the Sacrament.

On Sunday, September 28th from 2:00PM to 4:00PM there will be an opportunity for you and your children to learn what it means to take communion.

Come learn how special this sacrament is.  We will start with the baking of bread, discuss when and how it all began, and talk about why we take communion.  At the conclusion of the class all the children will be walked through the steps to take communion in the sanctuary with the pastor.  In the following week's worship service on October 5th, the children will be specially invited to take communion.  Sign up sheets will be available in the fellowship hall.

One Great Hour of Sharing

For more than fifty years, Presbyterians have joined with Christians throughout the nation in supporting One Great Hour of Sharing, responding to Christ’s love for all people by joyfully sharing that love with people in need. The refugee and the stranger have found food and safe shelter; those stunned by the aftermath of disasters have found relief and help rebuilding; and communities seeking to take control of their future have found partners in development. Presbyterians’ gifts support the work of The Presbyterian Committee for the Self-Development of People (SDP), Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA), and the Presbyterian Hunger Program. The hundreds of millions of dollars Presbyterians have given over the last half century have enabled a powerful witness to the love of the One who came that all might have life more abundantly.

Last Saturday, the praise team 'New Song' brought the house down with nearly two dozen tunes. The band led by Worship Leader and female singer Lynne Schneer, accompanist and male vocalist Alex Ingrassia showed their blessed talent with a two-plus hour performance that included cover and self-composed songs. Peter Thompson, "The Machine" backed up the team with a solid performance on the drums and Kris Gregory, Jan Verhelle, and Linda Sprenger provided fantastic supporting vocals.
